Pot Roast and Praise: Finding God’s Goodness in Everyday Moments

As the savory aromas of pot roast fill my kitchen, I’m filled with gratitude for the everyday blessings that make life rich and meaningful. The kind that often get overlooked in our pursuit of monumental moments and extraordinary experiences. But what if I told you that it’s in these every day, mundane moments that we can find some of the most profound blessings and goodness from God?

As a mother, I’ve learned to cherish the quiet days spent at home with my children. The days filled with puzzles, outdoor play, and reading, all set to the backdrop of a hearty meal cooking in the oven. There’s something special about watching my kids play outside while I chop celery, potatoes, and onions, the scent of roasting garlic wafting through the air. As I work with these simple ingredients, I’m reminded that each one is a provision from God’s own hand – a testament to His care and provision for our daily needs.

In these moments, I see Jesus. I see His presence in the everyday, the mundane, and the ordinary. He’s with us in the prep of every meal, in the work of every chore, and in every story we read together. He’s with us while we craft, while we play outside, and while we enjoy a home-cooked meal together. He’s with us in every moment, if only we’ll take the time to notice.

But noticing requires intentionality. It requires us to slow down and to truly seek out Jesus in every aspect of our day-to-day family life. When we do, we begin to see that He’s not just present in the big, breathtaking moments, but in the small, quiet ones too.

As we intentionally weave God into every moment, we begin to create a Christ-centered family culture that honors Him and points our children to His goodness. We begin to see that every moment is a gift, every moment is a miracle, and every moment is an opportunity to encounter Jesus.

These moments, dear friends, are a blessing. The fact that we get to enjoy a home-cooked meal together, pray over it as a family, and share in the beauty of creation is nothing short of miraculous. Let’s not lose sight of this in the busyness of life. Let’s not let the noise and flash of the world numb us to the very miracle that is every moment.

As I look to the future, I hope my children will remember me as an apron-clad, Jesus-teaching mom, and that they’ll recall their father’s heartfelt prayers at the dinner table. And maybe, just maybe, they’ll remember a few mighty fine pot roasts along the way.
